Matt Aslanian

Hi - I’m Matt Aslanian.  I own and operate Aslan Audio.  I’ve worked in professional audio for over 15 years.  Like so many other ‘sound guys’ my journey began with a deep love of music.  Sometime in middle school I heard the opening bars of Van Halen’s cover of “You Really Got Me,” (the song came out well before I was born, but this iconic commercial from the 90’s for the Nissan Z captured my attention) and berated my parents to help me purchase my first guitar.  Within a week I had formed a band and was recording our horrendous noise with a cassette tape recorder hung from the ceiling of our garage.  Computer based DAWs followed in the proceeding years through college.  Upon graduating from Texas Tech business school I got an internship at Dallas’ once famed Maximedia Recording Studios.  My professional audio education and career started here.

After a six month internship I was hired as an assistant engineer.  Over five years on staff I worked my way through the ranks to Chief Engineer before leaving in 2011 to start Aslan Audio.  My time at Maximedia was indispensable in regards to the skills I acquired and the artists I was lucky enough to work with.  I engineered projects for Miley Cyrus, Timbaland, Shakira, Ellie Goulding, Pitbull, Saliva, & Myron Butler amongst many others.  I also worked alongside incredible producers like Mark Endert (Maroon 5, Gavin Degraw, Train), Ryan Tedder (One Republic, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson), Bob Marlette (Tracy Chapman, Shinedown, Seether), and Beau Hill (Warrant, Ratt, Winger).  Nowadays, at Aslan Audio, I work primarily with independent artists helping them ‘level-up’ through song-writing, production, and mixing.

Unfortunately, I entered the music industry just after the rise of Napster and Mp3 file sharing.  Seeing the writing on the wall I decided I needed to find additional revenue streams utilizing my skill set.  This started me on the path to location sound and audio-post.  I put my first bag-based kit together in 2012 and I’ve since been all over the world recording sound for documentaries, TV shows, commercials, and industrials.  I’ve also sound-designed and mixed dozens of movies, shows and commercials in 5.1 and stereo (Dolby Atmos coming soon!).  Living between the two worlds - location sound & audio-post mixing - has been rewarding and illuminating.  Each role informs the other and reinforces my skills in each.  Breaking up the lonely days sculpting the sound of a snare drum in a windowless studio with the kinetic excitement of a film set is perfect for me.

When I’m not capturing or processing audio I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters, playing soccer, photography, and hiking in the Rocky Mountains.
